<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\nSeveral calls and questions lately regarding head lice. <\/span>Pediculus humanus capitis<\/em><\/span> <\/span><\/font>live on the scalp and neck hairs. <\/strong>The most common symptom is itching of the scalp, caused by louse bites to feed on blood. The lice themselves are essentially harmless, although excessive scratching may cause bleeding of the scalp, which may increase the risk of microbial infection. They are more of a social embarrassment than anything.<\/p>\nSolutions<\/span>
<\/strong>Unfortunately the common recommendations are toxic chemicals. Unbelievably Lindane and Dursban were specified often in the past. Products still on the shelves contain pyrethrum and synthetic pyrethroids. That\u2019s horrible advice. These products cause or increase allergy problems, especially for children with asthma.<\/font><\/span><\/p>\nNatural Tips
<\/strong><\/font><\/span>Here are some tips recommended by others. Douse the hair in olive oil or mayonnaise, which dissolves the exoskeletons of the lice and their nits. Wrap the hair in a plastic bag and let set for 4-6 hours. Apply a 50-50 solution of mineral oil and vinegar or wash the hair with dish soap instead of regular shampoo because it will more easily remove the oil and vinegar. Shaving the head is also something recommended.<\/span><\/em> All of these are silly.<\/p>\nHoward\u2019s recommendation<\/span> <\/strong>\u2013 To eliminate head lice and head lice nits, shower and clean with herbal soaps such as tea tree oil shampoo or Dr. Ohhira’s soap and then rinse the hair with full strength vinegar while the problem exists. Natural apple cider vinegar is the best choice. This process is all that needs to be done and it works.
